9133 Design Studio designed these business cards for Herbs & Kettles, a small tea business established by physicians and tea sommeliers based in Atlanta.
The founders, Abe and Poorvi, source teas directly from small to medium-sized growers in different regions of India to promote cultural and economic sustainability. Their aim is to offer customers an authentic, high-quality Indian tea experience.
The brand identity revolves around class and sophistication, which are further enhanced by the unique shape of the business card.
Logo Design and Illustrations
The Herbs & Kettles logo features an ampersand as its symbol. The “&” symbol is also designed to resemble a kettle, capturing the essence of the tea business.
The arch shape of the business card is perfect to house the logo, besides giving the card a distinctive layout.
As for the illustrations on the business card, they pay homage to the tea plantations while also serving as a nod to the illustrations seen on the packaging.
Typography and Colours
The typeface used for the logotype is Tara by the Indian Type Foundry.
According to 9133 Design Studio, their choice of this font aims to embody the core principles of the brand:
- Premium, yet approachable,
- High-end, yet friendly.
Tara’s wedge-shaped serifs and high contrast allow it to represent these key values while striking a visual balance with the ampersand kettle.
As a premium tea brand with a variety of products and colours, they chose royal navy blue paired with beautiful gold for their business cards.
By keeping the rest of the design minimal, it manages to bring focus to the brand and its beautiful packaging.
Packaging Designs
9133 Design Studio designed the exquisite packaging with several aspects in mind:
- A seal was embossed on the tin top to emphasise the brand’s premium aspect.
- A collection of Chaiwalas, represented by the most popular wild and endangered animals of India, was created to symbolise the diverse culture of India and to raise awareness.
- A series of environments that reflect a specific mood and characteristics for these teas were illustrated to showcase the diverse lands of tea cultivation.
The designers created a base tin with an embossed H&K symbol and a one-panel logo print, allowing experimentation with labels to display flavours without incurring significant costs for their clients.
The same logic was applied where stickers and sleeves were used on stand-up pouches and gift boxes, keeping the fundamental designs simple and unifying.
Printing of Business Cards
These business cards were locally printed in the US. The cards were screen-printed with gold colour on navy paper for an elegant and cohesive finish.
